Associations of CTLA4 Gene Polymorphisms with Graves' Ophthalmopathy: A Meta-Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Many studies have established that T-lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA4) is a susceptible gene for Graves' disease (GD). Also many studies showed the association between the CTLA4 exon-1 49A/G polymorphism and the risk of developing Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO) in GD patients. But those results were inconsistent. In recent years many new studies were published which helped to shed light on the relationship of CTLA4 SNP49 with GO. So we performed the meta-analysis to explore the association between the SNP49 and GO susceptibility in GD patients. Studies up to February 29, 2012, were searched by using PubMed. The odds ratio was used to evaluate the strength of the association. Altogether 12 case-control studies involving 2,505 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Results showed that the G allele was related to the increased risk of GO compared with the A allele under allelic genetic model (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.14-1.72, P = 0.001) in European subgroup. No publication bias was detected. Our results showed that the SNP49 polymorphism of CTLA4 gene was related to increased risk of GO.

Genetic associations of the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor gene with Graves diseases and Graves ophthalmopathy: A meta-analysis
Graves' disease (GD) is a common thyroid disease, and Graves ophthalmopathy(GO) is the most common extra-thyroidal manifestation of GD. Genetic associations of the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR) gene with GD and GO have been studied in different population groups for a long time. We aimed to obtain a more precise estimation of the effects of TSHR single nucleotide polymorphisms (SN...
متن کاملKIR Gene Content Does Not Contribute to Susceptibility to Graves’ Disease
Background: Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIR) are expressed on NK cells and a subset of T cells. The variable KIR receptors along with their ligands, HLA class I, influence risk for autoimmune and malignant diseases. Objective: To investigate the KIR gene profiles in relation to susceptibility to Graves’ disease in patients with ophthalmopathy. Methods: KIR genes profiles were ana...
متن کاملP-212: Association between Polymorphisms of CTLA-4 Gene and Unexplained Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion in An Iranian Population
Background: Unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion (URSA) has been suggested being associated with the failure of fetal-maternal immunologic tolerance in which the regulatory T lymphocytes (Tregs) play a crucial role. Cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4) is expressed transiently on activated T cells and constitutively on Tregs. CTLA-4 interacts with the B7 cell surface molec...

Graves’ ophthalmopathy is a debilitating disease impairing the quality of life of the affected individuals. Despite recent progress in the understanding of its pathogenesis, treatment is often not sa tisfactory. In mild cases, local therapeutic measures (artificial tears and ointments, sunglasses, nocturnal eyes taping, prisms) can con trol symptoms and signs. In severe forms of the disease,...
